The project

YMS was started in 2024 as a personal project to bring the growing amount of information about a boat into one place.

The first prototype was developed from practical experience and discussions among sailors about inventory, maintenance and projects. The idea was simple: technical information, documents, equipment, spare parts and maintenance data should be available directly on board, without depending on a proprietary cloud service.

The first public prototype was presented in the Segeln-Forum in March 2024. From there, YMS has continued to evolve from a personal tool into an open-source project.

YMS is developed with a focus on private boat owners who maintain, repair and improve their own boats. It is designed to run on your own hardware, such as a Raspberry Pi aboard the boat, while remaining accessible through a web interface.
